Two faculty members in Fisher’s Department of Management and Human Resources have been named top leadership scholars by The Leadership Quarterly, a peer-reviewed publication focused on the scientific study of leadership.

If a significant aspect of a student’s career search is “who you know,” then Fisher is providing a number of innovative ways to connect tomorrow’s business professionals with potential employers.

In examining the role of "culture fit" in diversity hiring, Tim Judge, the Joseph A. Alutto Chair in Leadership Effectiveness at Fisher, says that properly defining and understanding what "culture fit" is can help employers improve their talent strategies.

From sharing his story with Fisher students, to serving on the college’s Dean’s Advisory Council, to supporting graduate students through scholarships, Jesse Tyson’s (MBA '76) pride in his Ohio State roots is immense. Now, that legacy of engagement is a permanent part of the Fisher campus. Together with his wife, Cheryl, the family was recently honored for their generosity in the creation of the Cheryl and Jesse Tyson Diversity and Inclusion Suite.

If you want to achieve a goal, make sure you share your objective with the right person. “Contrary to what you may have heard, in most cases you get more benefit from sharing your goal than if you don’t – as long as you share it with someone whose opinion you value,” said Howard Klein, lead author of anew study and professor of management and human resources.

So what makes for a good apology? You have to mean it, sure. But there’s a narrative structure that a good apology should follow. Roy Lewicki, the Irving Abramowitz Memorial Professor Emeritus of management and human resources, has spent years researching the ideal apology, and he’s broken it down the perfect apology into six distinct components.

Student Josh Wiseley avoided conflict and speaking up for himself upon his arrival at The Ohio State University. However, his experience with the Dean’s Leadership Academy through the Fisher Leadership Initiative helped him come out of his shell, discover self-confidence and embrace his ability to lead.

Associate Professor of Operations Aravind Chandrasekaran and Fisher's Six Sigma offerings and were recognized as being noteworthy among other programs.

As part of the Ohio Export Internship Program, more than 40 students utilized their export-focused coursework to conduct research on overseas markets, create export compliance manuals and assist with sales and marketing plans. The 43 members of the OEIP Class of 2019 were recently recognized by Lt. Governor Jon Husted, along with Lydia Mihalik, director of the Ohio Development Services Agency. They were joined by representatives from Fisher, Cleveland State University Monte Ahuja College of Business and Youngstown State University Williamson College of Business.

Khalil Clements’ experience with The Ohio State University Center for Real Estate is just one example of the many ways the center is delivering on its mission to advance real estate through educational opportunities, academic research and outreach and partnerships with the real estate community.

Paula Bennett (BSBA '71) established herself as a leader in the retail industry and was recently recognized by the AACSB as an Influential Leader. Bennett attributes much of her success to the mentor relationships that started at Fisher.

Brian Mittendorf, the Fisher Designated Professor in Accounting, has been selected by the NonProfit Times as one of its Top 50 Influencers for his research into charitable giving.

“When I blasted into (the venture capital) ecosystem in 2016, it was like people did not know what to do with me because it was all men, all 50 and older, all white. And I come tearing in,” said Lindsay Karas Stencel (MBA '09).

Associate Professor of Marketing Joe Goodman shares insights into credit card considerations and strategies.

As part of the Accounting Careers Awareness and Preparation (ACAP) program, Douglas Burnett received a 360-degree view of accounting and business, as well as valuable personal, professional and career development skills. He was one of 41 high school students or recent graduates from across the state to participate in the 2019 ACAP-Ohio program at Fisher.

Danielle Lim is the co-founder of another Grandview space with Melissa Blackburn, whom she met while getting her MBA at Fisher College of Business. One Thursday evening after what Blackburn describes as a “girl boss” event, they were both feeling inspired and Lim mentioned an NPR piece she heard on coworking spaces. By Tuesday, they were looking at the building that now houses Haven Collective on Riverside Drive.
