Tom Stewart sees in the data what leaders see every day: talent is the critical driver of middle market growth and success, and it is in critically short supply. Fast growing companies feel the talent pinch first and most acutely. Working with Vistage chairs, Ohio State faculty and a unique set of NCMM-Vistage data, Tom helped crack the talent-planning code. In his presentation, he will share what mid-sized companies need to do to manage talent, gauge their bench strength, identify key positions and players, and develop succession plans and talent pools. Leave with the ABLE framework optimized for talent planning and the tools to get started now on improving your most essential asset.
Learn from health care innovators who took the journey from turning academic research into a successful business. Speakers include Dr. Kathy Bowles, PhD, RN, of the University of Pennsylvania, and Eric Heil MBA, former CEO and co-founder of RightCare Solutions, a pioneering medical technology company. Heil helped develop Dr. Bowles' research into software as an engineering student at the University of Pennsylvania as part of his senior project, and later commercialized it as a graduate student at Wharton School of Business. NaviHealth, a subsidiary of Cardinal Health, acquired this software in 2015. Kevin Taylor, VP Product Management, Global Market Development at Cardinal Health, will join the conversation to provide insight on how industry evaluates academic start-ups.

Middle Market Network is The Wall Street Journal’s event that brings together leading figures in business, finance and government to discuss the opportunities and risks shaping the future of America’s middle market — the engine of U.S. growth, job creation and competitiveness. Throughout the day, the editors will lead dynamic discussions with experts on the business issues that matter most to the sector. We’ll also explore — with Washington insiders — how the legislative, regulatory and trade policies of a new administration and Congress will affect midsize companies. National Center for the Middle Market Executive Director, Tom Stewart, will speak about issues that are top of mind for middle-market executives and where they see opportunity and risks.
This program will offer insightful, dynamic and informative presentations on hot topics that are impacting middle-market companies like yours. We'll also provide plenty of opportunities to connect and network with more than 200 Northeast Ohio middle-market executives and decisions makers. There will be thought-leading discussions on topics such as: capturing and using the right data, redefining customers’ experience and increasing profitability, managing and leveraging a dynamic leadership team, attracting talent and more. Key leaders of Northeast Ohio’s CyberSecurity Consortium will talk about how collaboration between large and middle market companies can help both address the cyber-threat challenges they’re facing.
