Student Investment Management

The Rosenfield Family Prize

The Rosenfield Family Prize for Excellence in Security Analysis recognizes outstanding equity research produced by students in The Ohio State University Student Investment Management (SIM) Program. Awarded each semester, the prize honors the graduate or undergraduate student who submits the strongest professional-quality security analysis report and investment recommendation.

Eligibility

The competition is open to current undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the Student Investment Management (SIM) Program at the Fisher College of Business.

Report Requirements

Students are expected to prepare an independent equity research report that demonstrates the depth of analysis used by professional investment analysts. Each submission should include:

  • An executive summary with a clear Buy, Hold, or Sell recommendation
  • A target price and investment horizon
  • A thorough analysis supporting the recommendation
  • Discussion of the company's business model, competitive position, financial performance, valuation, risks, and growth opportunities
  • Consideration of both fundamental and technical factors where appropriate

Reports should be written in the format of an executive memorandum and may include supporting charts, financial models, tables, and other exhibits. Students are encouraged to leverage the extensive financial research resources available through The Ohio State University, including Bloomberg, S&P Capital IQ, WRDS, IBES, Compustat, and other industry-standard databases.

Presentation slides used during SIM class presentations may also be submitted as supplemental material.

Submissions are evaluated based on the quality of the research, analytical rigor, clarity of writing, and strength of the investment thesis—not on the subsequent performance of the recommended investment.

Submission Timeline

Reports should be submitted by the end of the 12th week of each semester. Winners are announced during the first week of the following semester.

A panel of external investment professionals evaluates all submissions to determine the award recipients.

Awards

Each semester, the following awards are presented:

  • Excellence Award: $2,500
  • Honorable Mention: $1,000
