Cynthia W. Turner joined the Department of Accounting and MIS in the autumn of 2013 as a senior lecturer of accounting. Cynthia comes to Fisher having served on the faculty of the Department of Accountancy at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for more than 17 years. Most recently, she served as lecturer and associate director of the department’s undergraduate accountancy program. Cynthia has a MA and PhD in accounting from The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business and a BS in accounting from North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, NC.

Cynthia taught courses in managerial accounting and auditing at both the undergraduate and graduate levels at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. As a researcher, Cynthia’s scholarly work has been published in the Journal of Accounting Research and the International Journal of Accounting. Prior to beginning her academic career, she was a practicing accountant at EY. Cynthia is a certified public accountant and member of the American Accounting Association and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

  • ACCTMIS 3600 - Introduction to Accounting Information Systems

    The design of accounting information systems; focus is on business processes and internal control. Prereq: 3200 or 521, and BusMHR 2292 (BusAdm 499.01); or permission of instructor. Not open to students with credit for 631.

  • ACCTMIS 4310 - Topics in Management Accounting

    Advanced topics in management control, strategic interactions within the firm. Students may not repeat topics. Prereq: 3300 (525) and BusMHR 2292 (BusAdm 499.01). Repeatable to a maximum of 6 cr hrs.

  • ACCTMIS 3300 - Cost Accounting

    Managerial decision making in organizations with an emphasis on the use of financial data; theory and practice of management control. Prereq: 2300 (212), BusMgt 2320 (330), 2321 (331), and BusMHR 2292 (BusAdm 499.01); or permission of instructor. Not open to students with credit for 525.

  • ACCTMIS 7660 - Accounting & Data Analytics Internship Experience

    An internship experience affords the student the opportunity to apply in the workplace the knowledge and skills s/he acquired in the classroom. In this course, students will examine the role of data analytics in the daily operations of an organization. Students will gain a better understanding of organizational culture, professional expectations, and his/her career options in the workplace. Prereq: Enrollment in MAcc program.

  • ACCTMIS 6000 - Management & Control

    Fundamental role of uncertainty, risk and private information in accounting; emphasis on managerial decisions and control problems in organizations. Prereq: Enrollment in Master of Accounting Program. Not open to students with credit for 803.
