Commencement

A number of Fisher College of Business ceremonies and festivities marked the accomplishments of the graduating Class of 2019.

Undergraduate students, their families and friends gathered on the Joseph A. Alutto Quad for the college’s annual Undergraduate Pre-Commencement ceremony. The event celebrated the more than 1,600 students that made up the Class of 2019 and included the presentation of the Max M. Fisher Faculty Eminence Award. The recipient, finance lecturer Chad Zipfel (BSBA ’07), was nominated for the award in recognition of his dynamic and fast-paced classroom environment and his commitment to a number of college-wide programs, including the Honors Finance program and the Honors Cohort Advisory Council.

At the graduate level, Fisher’s annual Pre-Commencement ceremony celebrated the impact of the 225 graduates of the college’s MBA, Master of Human Resource Management and Specialized Master in Finance programs. Peter Cohen (BSBA ’68) delivered the Pre-Commencement address. Cohen, a supporter of graduate and undergraduate students at Fisher, became the youngest CEO of a Wall Street firm at age 36 in 1983. He has since gone on to lead and create a number of successful financial companies. He shared his leadership experience and insights from more than 40 years on Wall Street and in the financial industry.

2019 Graduate Spring Commencement

Fisher’s Master of Accounting (MAcc) program also recognized its 69 graduates at a Pre-Commencement ceremony. Student leaders were honored for their commitment to the program, with Gary Price (BSBA ’83) delivering the keynote. Price, a proud Buckeye, serves as the partner affairs leader and chief administrative officer of PwC and has remain engaged with the Department of Accounting and Management Information Systems at Fisher.

Fisher’s Executive MBA (EMBA) program celebrated the 32 graduates of the Class of 2019. The ceremony featured student and faculty awards, along with address from the class salutatorian and valedictorians.

Commencement ceremonies for The Ohio State University tookplace at noon on May 5 at Ohio Stadium. Journalist, author and political scientist Fareed Zakaria delivered the commencement address to more than 12,000 graduates and their families and friends. Zakaria hosts Fareed Zakaria GPS (Global Public Square) for CNN Worldwide and is a columnist for The Washington Post, a contributing editor for The Atlantic, and a bestselling author.
