The Seneca Leaders Expedition is a unique and exciting experiential learning opportunity – a captivating adventure that will challenge your abilities as both a leader and a follower.

This immersive and challenging expedition will allow you to apply your leadership knowledge to exhilarating recreational activities in one of the most beautiful settings in the U.S. – The New River Gorge and Seneca Rocks. After the completion of a 1.5 credit hour course in Spring 2020, you will travel to Fayetteville, West Virginia for 3 days, where you will partake in a variety of experiences - highlighted by a climb to the peak of Seneca Rocks.

Leaders who participate program will have the opportunity to participate in various outdoor recreational activities, including:

  • World Class Whitewater Rafting
  • Rock Climbing
  • Mountain Biking
  • Hiking
  • Outdoor Camping

The Seneca Leaders Expedition will take place April 30 - May 2, 2020 and is eligible for funding from the Second-year Transformational Experience Program (STEP). No previous outdoor recreational experience is required to participate.

Eligibility

  • Academic

    The Seneca Leaders Expedition is open to all undergraduate students at Ohio State who have an anticipated graduation date of Summer 2020 or later. 

    The three-credit-hour program will have 1.5 credit hours of classroom instruction and 1.5 credit hours of experience.

    Students must enroll in BUSADM 2798 in Spring 2020 to participate in the experience. As credit for the experience, students must also enroll in BUSMHR 4998. Credit earned as part of The Leaders Summit 2020 will count toward the Dean's Leadership Academy Certificate in Leadership.

  • Physical

    The Seneca Leaders Expedition requires a baseline level of fitness. Various health and medical conditions may prevent students from participating. Applicants to the program are required to submit a fitness self-assessment and medical record upon acceptance.

  • Funding

    The Seneca Leaders Expedition has a program fee of $750 per student. Upon acceptance into the program, students are required to pay this fee by January 31, 2020. 

    Applicants to the program are eligible to apply for funding and support through Ohio State's Second-year Transformational Experience Program (STEP).

    The program fee for the Seneca Leaders Expedition covers:

    • Transportation
    • Food
    • All activities
    • Equipment for activities
    • Rock-climbing lessons
    • Professional rock-climbing guides

    This program is eligible to be funded for students enrolled in the Second-year Transformational Experience Program (STEP). Due to the required date for the program fee, STEP students will be reimbursed upon completion and approval of their program.
