Throughout the 2017-2018 academic year, the Department of Accounting and Management Information Systems (AMIS) welcomed a number of distinguished business leaders — three of whom are AMIS alums.

Attendees at The Ohio State University Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship’s Innovation Summit 2018 received a series of first-hand insights into how companies have successfully built entrepreneurial cultures.

The KPMG Master of Accounting program, a joint effort with Villanova University’s School of Business and The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business, funnels undergraduates into the program with a focus on data analytics.

Tom Stewart, executive director of NCMM, observed a similar pattern among the subgroups in his report: larger companies were more confident.

KPMG is partnering with business schools such as Fisher College of Business to create master’s programs that update a traditional field with the latest technology.

“The United States is experiencing the third-longest period of interrupted growth in its economic history, and this has been led by mid-market companies,” says Thomas Stewart, NCMM’s executive director.

Two teams of real estate-focused students took advantage of opportunities to expand their knowledge and experience in the field, as they participated in a pair of national case competitions.

Recently, NiSource teamed up with business data analytics students at The Ohio State University to find ways to further extract trends from data. Overseen by a former IBM executive, two groups of juniors and seniors were tasked with finding factors around why and when work injuries occur.

Building on its commitment to providing students, faculty and staff at Fisher with opportunities to build their global competencies, the college’s Global Trade Network recently brought to campus He Yafei, a recognized diplomat and official within the government of the People’s Republic of China.

According to a 2016 survey of more than 1,000 C-suite mid-market executives by the National Center for the Middle Market, more than half of U.S. middle market companies did not have an “up-to-date” strategy to address cybersecurity risks, while 30 percent had no action plan at all.

Fisher is burgeoning with emerging leaders, many of whom recently worked to make the college’s day of service into something truly exceptional. C.J. Stover and Brady Ellis were among those students who helped shape Fisher Impact Day, an event in which more than 880 members of the Fisher community dispersed across campus and throughout central Ohio to serve various organizations.
