Experiential Learning
Business is changing. It’s more than principles — it’s people, perspectives and practice. It means knowing the answer to “why?” while also being able to demonstrate “how.”
That distinction is at the heart of our goal to provide every Fisher student with the opportunities and experiences that bring their business textbooks to life to create programs, rooted in curriculum, that transcend the classroom and empower our students to put their knowledge, skill and principles into practice.
These hands-on experiences can be powerful career differentiators; they’re capable of turning a student’s simple idea into the next great innovation, or they can breathe life into a real-world business challenge by immersing a student in a relevant and timely case study.
Support of experiential learning at Fisher directly and positively impacts future leaders and the future of business. These opportunities directly connect our students with business and industry, developing in them the critical insights, strengthened communication skills and valuable perspectives to experience how business is conducted locally, nationally and around the world.
Experiential learning at Fisher takes a number of forms:
- Case competitions: events in which teams of students analyze a challenge faced by a company and provide a recommended solution, often within a condensed timeframe
- Best of Student Start-Up Competition: a series of entrepreneurial workshops that culminates in a pitch competition for startup funding
- Business Labs: projects that connect graduate students with local businesses to provide analysis and solutions to specific challenges they face
- Global Applied Projects (GAP): projects that connect graduate students with global businesses to provide analysis and solutions to specific, in-country challenges
- Industry Immersion: a program that provides undergraduate students with deep dives into companies within relevant industries looking for solutions to real challenges
- Student projects: a variety of programs that leverage Fisher’s connections with corporate and nonprofit organizations looking for fresh insights from students
- Internships: short-term employment opportunities that provide students with inside perspective on a company and industry
- Leadership-focused programs: offerings from the Undergraduate Leadership and Engagement Office and the Fisher Leadership Initiative designed to help students discover and refine their leadership skills
- Speakers: executives and leaders share their insights and experiences with students, complementing lessons learned in the classroom
Provide tomorrow’s leaders with a combination of a rigorous, leading-edge curriculum and hands-on experiential learning opportunities — differentiators that have distinguished Fisher graduates as among the most sought-after in the nation.
