Mini-MBA Graduate Healthcare Certificate

The role of physicians is evolving. The business of healthcare has changed significantly in the last decade and requires all physician leaders to develop managerial and interpersonal skills to deliver value to their patients. Business acumen will improve the leadership and decision-making skills of healthcare professionals, vital skills to improve the efficacy of healthcare delivered around the world.
The Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia, SAMBA, and The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business have partnered to create a 100% online Mini-MBA Graduate Healthcare Certificate Program for physicians to meet the expanded needs of leaders in healthcare.
Program Components
The core curriculum consists of six graduate-level courses, totaling 15 credit hours:
- Strategy Formulation and Implementation MBA 6293
- Operations MBA 6233
- Organizational Behavior MBA 6201
- Leadership MBA 6202
- Data Analysis for Managers MBA 6273
- Finance MBA 6223
All courses are part of Fisher College of Business's Working Professional MBA program. All courses will be delivered online.
By the end of this program participants will:
- Understand the fundamentals of strategy
- Gain insight into the operations function and how it contributes to ensuring effective and efficient flow of materials and information
- Study employee interactions and organizational processes that seek to create more efficient and cohesive organizations
- Learn the factors that influence individual and team performance and techniques to improve it
- Achieve an application-oriented understanding of data-driven decision-making
The Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia (SAMBA) strives to be the leader in the perioperative care of the ambulatory surgical patient, including NORA and Office-Based Anesthesiology, patient care, medical education, patient safety, research, and practice management. Their goals include advancing the practice of ambulatory anesthesia in all ambulatory venues, promoting high ethical and professional standards, providing professional guidance for the practice of perioperative care of ambulatory surgical patients, and fostering and encouraging education and research. SAMBA was formed in 1984, holding the first of its educational meeting in 1986.

Delivery Method
100% online with a combination of synchronous and asynchronous elements in each course. Courses will be scheduled for two evenings per week. Specific dates and times will be shared closer to the start of the program.
Cost
In-state tuition $23,020.56 | Out-of-state tuition $23,620.56
Tuition is subject to change in the event of an increase in The Ohio State University general fee. Tuition reimbursement benefits for Ohio State University employees and dependents can be used to help cover the cost of this program.
Prospective Participant Profile
This program is valuable for physician leaders who are interested in developing business acumen and fine-tuning their leadership skills to better serve their patients and fellow medical professionals. Those who enroll in the program will receive a waiver for their SAMBA membership fee.

Program Faculty
Dr. Jurriaan de Jong is a clinical assistant professor in the Operations and Business Analytics department at Ohio State’s Fisher College of Business and serves as the academic director of the Master of Business Operational Excellence (MBOE) program. He teaches the Core Operations Management course in the Working Professional MBA, and Undergraduate programs. In addition, he teaches graduate elective courses, Operations and Technology Strategy, and Healthcare Operations Management. He also teaches in various custom and open enrollment Executive Education programs at the Fisher College. Dr. De Jong earned a PhD in Operations Management from Ohio State and an MS and BS in Industrial Engineering & Management Science from the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands.
Dr. De Jong’s research interests focus on buyer-supplier relationships, in the healthcare supply chain and other environments. His articles have appeared in the Production & Operations Management, Healthcare Management Science, Journal of Management & Governance, and Computers & Industrial Engineering, among others.
Dr. De Jong has extensive work experience, in a variety of managerial, consulting and industrial engineering roles, at Starbucks Coffee, and Abercrombie & Fitch, among others. His research and education have included engagements with the Wexner Medical Center, Tata Management Training Center (India), Textron, New Era Cap, Kaleida Health, Buffalo General Medical Center, Catholic Health, and Harmac Medical products.
