AMIS Leadership
The Success of the Accounting & MIS Department's programs depends on their leadership. Faculty and industry professionals alike come together to support our academic and research efforts. Under their guidance, our Department focuses on outstanding teaching, innovative research, and outreach to businesses and communities in the State of Ohio and beyond. See the Department's Pattern of Administration (linked below) for information on how the Department is governed.
The department’s recently adopted strategic plan, Shaping Leaders in a Shifting Landscape, will guide our decisions, efforts, and priorities in the coming five academic years (2023-2028). In a world where change is constant, having the plan as a guiding document will provide strength as we lean into the shifting landscape.
AMIS Department Chair
Anil Arya - AMIS Department Chair
John J. Gerlach Chair in Accounting
Professor of Accounting & MIS, and (by courtesy) Economics
Professor Arya became the Chair of the Department of Accounting & Management Information Systems in the fall of 2022. His research has developed insights about accounting practices and highlighted the unique role played by accounting numbers in decentralized organizations where information is critical. His articles have studied issues such as earnings management, real options and control problems, information system design, team effectiveness, and historical cost reporting. His work has appeared in many academic journals, including Journal of Accounting and Economics,Journal of Accounting Research, The Accounting Review, Review of Accounting Studies, Journal of Economic Theory, The Rand Journal of Economics,Management Science, and Issues in Accounting Education.
Professor Arya teaches in the MBA, MAcc, undergraduate Honors, and the Ph.D. Accounting programs. In the classroom, he attempts to develop an understanding of accounting as more than a collection of rules by highlighting economic forces that might give rise to accounting as we know it. This leads to an interdisciplinary approach, and one that capitalizes on synergies between research and teaching activities.
