Background

Peter Carrera is an Operations Management PhD Candidate at Ohio State University on the 2025/2026 academic job market. with an intrinsic passion for learning and quality. His research focuses on leveraging learning and organization practices to drive service quality performance. He studies how service organizations learn from and make decisions about their experiences (knowledge creation) and the experiences of others (knowledge transfer) in the pursuit of service excellence. He deeply believes in engaged scholarship, and his research is done in tandem with major, global travel and tourism companies. His academic pursuits are heavily inspired by a decade of work experience in operational, management, and executive positions at Accor Hotels, Cornell University, Sabre, Starwood (Marriott), Relais & Châteaux, and NASA.

Peter has significant teaching experience at Ohio State University and Cornell University, including teaching / supporting courses on: core operations management, service operations, data analysis, project management, sustainable operations, and business modeling. Peter regularly presents and leads sessions at POMS, INFORMS, AOM, and DSI. Peter serves on the POMS College of Service Operations Board as the Doctoral Student Engagement Liaison. Peter is an avid reader and writer who enjoys playing basketball, cooking, swimming, and practicing judo. He is am originally from Greenbelt, Prince George’s County, MD.
