More than 700 Fisher students, faculty and staff gathered for Fisher Impact Day, a day that unites the college in the service of local nonprofits and organizations. The annual, student-led event provides an opportunity for Fisher students to give back to their community while gaining an understanding of servant leadership.

“Fisher Impact Day helps bring Fisher’s community together through supporting local Columbus organizations,” said co-directors Allison Hood, a third-year finance student, and Sam Ostrander, a third-year finance and economics student. “Students had a chance to learn about and help multiple organizations while seeing how, when Fisher comes together, we can create a larger impact.”

This year, Impact Day participants created:

  • 1,357 thank you cards for veterans
  • 1,256 well-wishes cards for children at Nationwide Children's Hospital
  • 653 no-sew blankets for children in foster care for My Very Own Blanket
  • 53 blankets for adults served by Blankets for the Homeless
  • 2,904 dog toys for the Franklin County Dog Shelter and Adoption Center

As Fisher Impact Day co-directors, Hood and Ostrander utilized the event to deepen key leadership skills outside of the classroom, including delegation, event planning, relationship-building and communication ― skills they will utilize as professionals in the business world.

Created in 2015, Fisher Impact Day allows students, faculty and staff to dedicate their Veterans Day holiday to the service of others and the betterment of their communities.
