Students looking to land an internship or a post-graduation job recently took full advantage of several career development opportunities thanks to a number of Fisher’s offices and programs.

More than 1,400 students from across Ohio State registered and attended the Fisher Spring Internship and Job Fair at the Ohio Union. Presented by the college’s award-winning Office of Career Management, the fair drew 135 companies to campus.

In preparation for the fair, several Fisher seniors spent time serving as “Career Fair Pros,” where they helped other students polish their pitches and prepare for the event.

“For many of our students, this is a critical opportunity for them to make valuable connections with employers and put into practice their networking and interviewing skills,” said Jeff Rice, executive director of the Office of Career Management and associate to the dean for staff professional development.

“Likewise, our employers see the fair as a great chance to recruit the next great leader at their company. Events like this are opportunities for us to showcase the highly personalized services we offer our students as we develop the best prepared job seekers while also adding to Fisher’s reputation as a favorite destination for recruiters.”

The fair capped a day that began with a presentation by Ben Carpenter, an author and former co-CEO of Greenwich Capital and RBS Greenwich Capital. Carpenter shared with undergraduate students his strategies and insights for career development, including topics such as searching for and applying for internships, interviewing for jobs and how to make positive impressions and contribute as a leader in the workplace.

Carpenter is author of “The Bigs,” a book detailing his career path and the valuable lessons he learned as a Wall Street veteran, small business owner and leader of a major international investment company. Carpenter’s visit was made possible by Fisher’s Leadership Initiative, which is leveraging the college’s deep thought leadership and scholarly excellence in the area of leadership development.

“Ben’s presentation provided our students with the perfect blend of tactical, career-development advice and hard-earned leadership insights,” said Tim Judge, the Joseph A. Alutto Chair in Leadership Effectiveness and executive director of the Leadership Initiative. “We look forward to hosting even more events as we work toward equipping Fisher students with the knowledge and skills to act as principled leaders.”
