Check out your steps after you have been admitted to OSU on the Student Exchange at Fisher College of Business.

(EXPANDER 1: Admittance)

Once admitted, you will receive an welcome packet via regular mail that includes your:

  • Official Notice of Admission
  • DS 2019
  • Fisher Welcome Letter

This will be sent via UPS to the address where you will receive mail until you leave for exchange. Once you have received your welcome packet, you will have to complete the following steps:

  1. Start your J-1 Student Visa Application
    Check the following websites to research how to apply: U.S. State Department or U.S. J-1 Visa Exchange Visitor Program
  2. Activate your OSU Email
    To receive important information from the university (Housing, Arrival Information, Orientation, etc.), please activate your OSU email immediately.
  3. Select Courses
    You are able to select and request enrollment into OSU's courses after you have been admitted to OSU.
    • Undergraduate Requirements: 12-18 OSU credits, of which 6 OSU credits must be business courses.
    • Graduate Requirements: 10-18 OSU credits, of which 6 OSU credits must be business courses.
    • Refer to the "Course and Grade" section on the FAQ page for further information and syllabi.
  4. Complete Vaccination Requirements
    You mst complete the three (3) components to OSU's Vaccination Requirement. Find more information on OSU’s Student Health Service page. You may need to receive a signature from a licensed medical provider to complete the requirements, so would advise you to complete this before you arrive in the U.S.
  5. Find Housing
    Plan to live On-Campus where residence halls are close, convenient, and safe. The Housing Office will use your OSU email to communicate further information. Refer to the "Cost" section on the FAQ page for further information.
  6. Book your Flight
    Book your travel to arrive on campus 5-7 days prior to the start of classes. You may not be late for the start of classes at OSU.
    • Make sure you book your flight in time to attend your scheduled mandatory OIA Check-In and Orientation session and mandatory Fisher Orientation.
    • With a J-1 student visa, you can arrive up to 30 days prior to the start of the program and depart up to 30 days after it ends. This may change in the future and advise that you check with OIA's Immigration officer for most updated information.
  7. Pay OSU Fees by the Deadline
    Make sure your student fees, insurance fees, housing fees, and any other applicable fees at OSU are paid before the deadline. Fee payment deadlines can be found on the OSU's Registrar page. If you miss the payment deadline, you will be assessed late fees. Estimated cost can be found on the FAQ page.
    * NOTE: All international students attending OSU are required to be covered by OSU's student health insurance for the term they attend OSU.
  8. Other Information

(EXPANDER 2: At OSU)

  1. Check-in with the Office of International Affairs (OIA)
    Per immigration law, you must check-in with the Office of International Affairs (OIA) after you have arrived at OSU.
    • Schedule and attend OIA's check-in and orientation. Registration can be found on their webpage.
    • Make sure you maintain a lawful status of your J-1 Student Visa while you attend OSU.
  2. Attend the Mandatory Orientation at Fisher College of Business
    You are required to attend an orientation held at Fisher College of Business, before classes start at OSU.
    • Autumn 2016 Orientation Dates: August 22, 2016
    • Spring 2017 Orientation Dates: January 6, 2017
  3. Enjoy your Time at OSU!
  4. Complete your Studies at OSU
    Make sure you complete all items listed below before you depart back to your home country.
    • Fees: Pay all fees (student, library, etc.) before you leave. I will not be able to obtain your transcript if you have not paid all fees in full.
    • Housing: Please be sure to arrange final departure dates with your On-campus Residence Halls and depart on the dates that have been agreed on. Make sure you leave the place in the same condition as you have found it.
    • Transcripts: Transcripts will be sent via email to your OSU email and your home university coordinator email, 1-2 months after the end of the semester.
    • Survey: A survey will be sent to you after your completion of your exchange program. Complete this survey.
    • Other Documents: If you need signatures on any documents from your home university, please inform the Fisher Exchange Coordinator.
