Fisher College of Business Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification is available to individuals who have successfully completed our Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Leader program.

Program participants will learn: 

  • Additional opportunity to learn and improve Lean Six Sigma skills
  • Validation of knowledge base by an academic institution
  • Certification backed by the highly-regarded Fisher College of Business and The Ohio State University

Certification Process:

Successful completion of a comprehensive three-hour computer-based exam. Score of 80 percent or better is required.

Successful completion of two Black Belt projects:

  • There will be two Black Belt project reviews that include phone and email interaction with a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Examiner.
  • A project charter must be submitted prior to progressing with the project. The early submission is to establish that the project has the necessary scope to demonstrate learning, and to deliver significant bottom-line results. It may be acceptable to combine the elements of two different projects with smaller scopes in order to meet the skill demonstration requirements.
  • Complete project documentation must be provided along with a signed affidavit from a champion involved in the process. Sensitive data can be modified in the interest of confidentiality.
  • Candidates should plan to complete the project process within 18 months of completing the exam.
  • The Fisher College of Business Review Board will provide final approval and award certification.

Detailed Certification Standard

Retake and Cancellation Policy: One exam reschedule is permitted within the year and no more than two exam retakes in total. You must wait one month before taking the exam again. A $200 exam retake fee will be assessed for each exam retake. You must schedule within a year or you will lose your entire fee.
