MBE Middle Market Executive Education

The Minority Business Enterprise Middle Market Executive Education program prepares minority leaders from middle-market companies for tomorrow’s challenges. This innovative program provides training and development by The Ohio State University’s Fisher College Of Business, highlighting aspects of operational excellence and leadership behaviors, which are essential for successfully executing change and furthering innovation into the future.

To optimize the learning experience, each team is expected to fully participate in five on-campus immersions. In addition, each participant will be required to bring a business challenge or opportunity they are trying to solve within their organization. Participants will work on these problems with experienced faculty and industry leaders, applying the knowledge starting from day one. These on-campus sessions will be reinforced with simulations, activities, and dynamic discussions. Having these skills and knowledge to lead teams through execution excellence successfully, will position your company well into the future. Application information is listed below.

About Ascend
Ascend links business schools, business service-providing organizations, and Community Development Financial Institutions to create local support ecosystems for neighborhood-based, inner-city, and minority-owned businesses in Atlanta, the San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle, Washington, D.C., and Columbus.

Ascend was created through a grant from JPMorgan Chase’s Small Business Forward initiative. The initiative supports small businesses with the potential to grow, to offer quality employment, and to create economic opportunity for vulnerable populations and their communities.

Ability to dedicate at least 2-3 employees to every class

Committed to having at least one employee in every class

Committed to engaging in and working on a class project

Committed to submitting information for metrics for up to 5 years

Able to participate in pre and post surveys, and possible interviews about the program

Program Leadership and Advisors

  • Jill Treece, Academic Director

    Jill Treece is a senior lecturer in the Department of Management Sciences. Treece began her career as a registered nurse and has nearly two decades in the healthcare industry. Her most recent role before joining Fisher, was the Director of Nursing for one of Central Ohio’s largest hospitals. In addition, she has experience with leading large hospital re-design and build projects, including leading teams through workflow design and optimizing patient flow. She has coached in Fisher’s Executive Education, Masters of Business Operational Excellence program since 2015, and continues to teach in this program as well as several other offerings at the business school.

  • James Hill, PhD - Management Education

    James A. Hill is an associate professor of operations management and chair of the Management Sciences department.. He joined the Fisher faculty in 2004 after teaching graduate courses at the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University. Hill teaches the MBA and executive MBA core course in operations management and elective courses in supply chain management. He received the outstanding full-time MBA professor for teaching excellence in 2014 for his core operations management course and the 2011 outstanding professor for his elective course in matching supply with demand as well as the 2012 Pace Setters Graduate teaching award.

  • Jacqueline D. Neal, MBA - Market Access

    Jacqueline D. Neal is an accomplished C-Suite Executive with over 25 years of management experience working across multiple disciplines, who is skilled at quickly assessing growth opportunities, setting a clear strategic vision, and leading a culture based on fiscal responsibility, collaboration, accountability and diversity of thought. Accomplishments include company restructuring for maximum value, developing margin enhancement strategies, creating integrated strategic business and marketing plans, idea generation, implementing quantitative and qualitative analytical tools, leadership team evaluation and refocusing. She has P&L and strategic marketing experience across multiple categories within a number of Fortune 100 based consumer package goods companies, e.g. M&M/Mars, Quaker Oats, Heinz, Nabisco, and Kraft.

    As President and CEO of the Ohio Minority Supplier Development Council, Ms. Neal’s role is to promote and advocate for minority supplier development and help secure minority-owned business participation in the corporate and public procurement process.

  • G. Winston Smith - Money Access

    Winston Smith brings over 35 years of experience in corporate management, business development, banking, and real estate development.

    Mr. Smith was actively involved in business advocacy and supplier development activities for 7 years in his supplier diversity roles at AT&T and Microsoft. From those positions, Mr. Smith served on the boards of the National Minority Supplier Development Council, the Business Consortium Fund, the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council, the US Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce, Diversity Information Resources, the Advisory Committee of the US Department of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency, the Diversity Advisory Committee of the Institute of Supply Management, the Minority Business Executive Education Advisory Board of the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth University, and various other boards and committees.

    Mr. Smith is a dedicated and successful advocate for minority, women, and service disabled veteran business enterprises.

  • Renard Green, MBA - Program Leader

    Renard Green is the consultant for the Ascend program, and the CEO & Owner of R- squared Consulting Group. A native Floridian, Mr. Green holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Chemistry from Florida A&M University, where he graduated with honors as a Sloan Fellow. Renard also has a Master’s of Business Administration from Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University, where he was honored with a Pacesetter Award given to the top two percent of the Fisher graduating class as well as an Individual Diversity Award.

    The R-Squared Consulting Group provides consulting services and strategic guidance on business needs such as financial resource development, future market revenues, marketing entries, marketing mixes, organizational development, compensation systems, partnership selections, and barriers to success.
