Business Analytics
Data plays an increasingly important role in how organizations understand challenges, identify opportunities and make decisions. The Business Analytics minor prepares students to recognize patterns, predict outcomes and translate complex information into actionable business insights.
Developed with input from industry, the minor equips students across disciplines with analytical skills that can strengthen their academic interests and career preparation. Whether you study business, engineering, computer science, social sciences or another field, you’ll gain practical tools that are valuable across industries and professional roles.
Curriculum requirements
There are two versions of the Business Analytics minor. One is for students admitted spring 2026 and prior, while the other is for those admitted autumn 2026 and beyond. If you are interested in switching to the newer version of the minor, please reach out to your academic advisor.
The Business Analytics minor requires 15 credit hours, including:
- 9 hours of required core courses
- 6 hours of electives, chosen from an approved list of analytics-focused courses across multiple discipline

- BUSOBA 3331 – Business Analytics: Data Management & Descriptive Analytics (3 credits)
- Introduction to data organization, management, visualization and descriptive analytics.
- Prerequisites: ECON 2001.01; ECON 2002.01; CSE 2111 or equivalent; MATH 1131/1151
- BUSOBA 3332 – Application of Predictive Analytics to Business Data (3 credits)
- Hands-on course on predictive modeling and inference using modern analytics software.
- Prerequisites: ECON 2001.01; ECON 2002.01; STAT 3202 or BUSOBA 2320 & 2321; and CSE 2111
- BUSOBA 3333 – Prescriptive Analytics and Optimization (3 credits) - offered Spring only
- Focuses on decision-making through optimization models, simulations and causal inference.
- Prerequisites: ECON 2001.01; ECON 2002.01; STAT 3202 or BUSOBA 2320 & 2321; and CSE 2111

Yes. Students with junior standing may complete BUSADM 3630.05 and 3632.05 through the Industry Immersion Program before taking the required core courses.
