Hu’s research into AI in business earns prestigious award
One of Fisher’s newest faculty members, Yuheng Hu, has been recognized for his emerging body of research into artificial intelligence (AI) in business and technology.
Presented by the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) and its Information Systems Society (ISS), the ISS Sandy Slaughter Early Career Award recognizes young scholars for their high-impact contributions and intellectual leadership in the field of information systems.
Hu, a Fisher College of Business distinguished associate professor in the Department of Accounting and Management Information Systems, was one of only five academics worldwide to receive the honor.
“Winning this award is a tremendous honor for me,” said Hu. “It is especially meaningful because it recognizes not only my scholarly contribution, but also the potential for long-term impact on the field. The award affirms the importance of research at the intersection of AI and business, and it motivates me to continue pursuing work that advances both theory and practice.”
Hu’s research encompasses machine learning, generative AI, human-AI interaction, digital platforms and understanding how AI technologies shape business decisions and societal outcomes. A core theme is AI’s role in human activities on digital platforms, including financial decision-making, content generation, customer-engagement and organizational workflows.
Prior to joining Fisher in autumn 2025, Hu spent a decade as a faculty member at the University of Illinois Chicago and worked as a research staff member at IBM Research. He earned his PhD in computer science from Arizona State University.
His work has been published in leading journals such as Information Systems Research, Journal of Management Information Systems, MIS Quarterly, INFORMS Journal of Computing and the Journal of the Association for Information Systems, and he has presented at top computer science conferences such as the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence, and the International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence. His research and commentary have been featured in national and international media outlets, including the LSE Business Review, The Verge, ABC News, WIRED, HuffPost and PBS.
In addition to his published works, Hu serves as a department editor for Decision Sciences Journal and an associate editor for Electronic Commerce Research. He received 10 Best Paper awards and nominations from venues such as the Workshop on Information Technologies and Systems, the International Conference on Information Systems, the INFORMS Annual Meeting eBusiness Cluster and the ACM CHI Conference.
The ISS Sandy Slaughter Early Career Award is named for former Georgia Tech Scheller College of Business faculty member Sandy Slaughter, who was tireless in her pursuit of recognizing the “next generation” of leaders among information systems academics. The award honors Hu’s theoretical and practical insights about AI performance, transparency and the responsible design of digital platforms.
“I see this award not as a culminating point but as encouragement to push the boundaries of how AI can be used responsibly and creatively in business and society,” said Hu.
