Rick joined the faculty at the Moritz College of Law after 28 years in private practice. He teaches courses in Real Estate Development Law and Commercial Leasing and serves as the faculty advisor for the College’s Real Estate Law Association. He has recently entered into an agreement with the West Publishing Company to author a textbook on Real Estate Development Law (with a planned publication date of mid-year 2011).
Rick is a 1978 graduate of The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.
Following graduation, He spent 12 years in private practice, first as an associate and principal with the Columbus, Ohio firm of Murphey, Young and Smith and then as a partner in the international firm of Squire, Sanders and Dempsey. During his 12 years of law firm practice, Rick represented a wide variety of closely held corporate clients, with a special emphasis on the representation of real estate developers.
In 1990, Rick left Squire, Sanders and Dempsey to become Executive Vice President and General Counsel of the Pizzuti Companies, a real estate development company headquartered in Columbus, Ohio and having offices in Chicago, Orlando and Indianapolis. For the next 13 years, he served in the dual role of lawyer and business principal in connection with the Pizzuti Companies’ development, leasing and financing of over 20 million square feet of Class A office and industrial projects throughout the Midwest and Southeast regions of the United States. Rick retired from the Pizzuti Companies in 2003 and spent the next three years providing legal and business consulting services to private developers and corporate real estate departments located throughout the country.
Rick is married to Sandy Rich, also a graduate of The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. Rick and Sandy have two children, Jill, age 21, a recent graduate of Miami University, and Michael, age 18, who will be starting his freshman year at Ohio State University in the fall.
