Certificate in Managing Services Program

The Initiative for Managing Services (IMS), and Executive Education, at the Fisher College of business are pleased to offer our Certificate in Managing Services Program for your designees in this pilot format. Our conversations with you over the past months lead us to believe we, together, have a wonderful opportunity to prepare the leaders and emerging leaders of service businesses and operations in both a classroom and, soon, in blended formats.

The impetus for this program originated with the forming of IMS, and gained momentum as our member companies called for specific, well rounded training for the unique challenges of services. Led by Dr. Tony Rucci, the program was evolved to include top flight faculty at Fisher, working together to create a unique focus on services, delivered over a six-seven month period.

Overall Learning Goal:

Our initial goal for this program is to provide leaders with a comprehensive curriculum in services, allowing them to understand the complete range of issues businesses and operations face in all areas of service. Individual parts of this spectrum will be, or already are, addressed in separate, deeper dive programs. However, we did not find any that could be considered comprehensive nor that could provide a general manager’s perspective, and a way to demonstrate the interconnectedness of the various disciplines.

We believe that the members of the pilot class, and certainly those who follow as the course is refined, will understand the range of topics to run a successful service operation and will have established a platform for future growth and mastery, whether with Fisher or the other sources open to them.

Participants:

The ideal attendee for this program can cover a range of preparation and skill sets, each with the opportunity to engage in deeper dives being developed for each. The program will address Services Management at a general manager level. For those attendees actively engaged in mid to senior positions, it will provide immediate application. For attendees in the high potential category, it will provide a perspective of the entire business and a platform and context for the events of their careers as they unfold.

Program Agenda and Content:

The program is designed to be conducted in a series of modules, with attendees coming on campus 1 day per month for 7 months. This allows for assignments between sessions, collaboration with other classmates, interaction with faculty and investigation of applications within the host companies.

The following is a summary of courses, faculty and dates. The delivering faculty will provide detailed syllabi and learning objectives for each module prior to the delivery. (Each class will be from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM in Room 405 Mason Hall with appropriate meals, etc.):
