Introducing the Masters of Business Operational Excellence
The Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University is pleased to announce the creation of a distinctive program that will offer professionals an opportunity to obtain a Master of Business Operational Excellence (MBOE), beginning at the end of 2008.

Why an MBOE at The Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University?
The world of operational excellence is rapidly growing in success and in the number of organizations that embrace its concepts. By creating this unique program Fisher College and OSU continue to lead the way in developing graduates who can revolutionize operational excellence globally.

Ohio State's operations group is uniquely qualified to bring this program to fruition. In 2006, the operations management program was ranked sixth in the world by the Wall Street Journal, while its undergraduate operations program ranked sixth in 2011 in U.S. News & World Report. By combining these distinctions with the national reputation of the Center for Operational Excellence (COE) we are preparing students to conquer this new operational excellence frontier.

What sets this program apart from other master's programs?
The MBOE offers one week intense periods of on-campus learning, followed by several weeks facilitating continuous improvement events at the student's organization. Classroom learning is facilitated by world renowned faculty, who are leaders in operational excellence.

What are the benefits to a working professional and their corporation?
The limited on-campus commitment of eight classroom sessions (Wed-Sat) over 12-months provides students the opportunity to maintain their current work-life balance, while still receiving a master's degree in one year.

A major component of the MBOE is the integrative Capstone Project. The objective of the Capstone Project is to provide students the opportunity to lead a major improvement project at their respective corporation. With input from the student's company and faculty advisor, each student outlines their porject, and then manages a team in their organization to accomplish the projects goals. This four-part project will reinforce the concepts learned in the classroom while addressing business needs.

What is the curriculum for the MBOE?
The eight weeks of class work, will be concentrated, productive learning opportunities, which focus on individual components of operational excellence. Over the course of the program students will earn strategic thinking through the following modules:

  • Operational excellence in service or manufacturing
  • Value stream management
  • New products and innovation
  • Material and information flow
  • Tough problem solving
  • Leadership
