New to Lean with Eric Olsen, Director of Central Coast Lean

What is Lean and why is it important? We sat down with Eric Olsen, Director for Central Coast Lean and Professor of Industrial Technology in the Orfalea College of Business at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, to discuss the benefits of Lean and his upcoming New to Lean workshop. Check it out here:

Interested in understanding the principles underlying lean thinking and a lean transformation for your organization? This introductory course to lean takes place on January 27th and 28th, 2022 and provides a common baseline understanding of how lean works and the prerequisites for success.

This 7.5-hour workshop uses the Shingo Model (i.e. Cultural enablers > Continuous improvement > Enterprise alignment > Results) to build an understanding of lean, its underlying principles, and how lean can transform how an organization works.  Lectures, videos, and simulations are used to introduce concepts and tools.  Liberating Structures are used to level the playing field and allow everyone the opportunity to engage with the materials and others for an effective learning experience.  The two-day workshop ends with an assessment of how lean your organization is currently and where there are opportunities for improvement.

The workshop is comprised of five 90-minute sessions over two days as follows: Day 1 (8:30 - 10:00am, 10:30am - 12:00pm, 1:00 - 2:30pm) and Day 2 (8:30 - 10:00am, 10:30am - 12:00pm). This course is recommended for all managers and associates.  Knowledge of lean or six sigma is not required.  Participants already knowledgeable in lean can attend to build a common framework with their team or become facilitators.

This is a limited capacity session open only to employees at COE member companies. Please contact Annie Platten at Platten.6@osu.edu if you're interested in attending.
