The Business of Good

The Business of Good Forum is a speaker series comprised of people devoted to advancing the efforts of Social Entrepreneurism. This series has been made available through the cooperative efforts of the Fisher College of Business and Free Hand Foundation.

At this luncheon series the intention is not to have the attendee be "talked at" but to develop a group dialog. Our guest speaker will present their efforts of doing the business of good (social entrepreneurism) and then we will have time to discuss and allow for the free flow of ideas in this emerging discipline.

Who Should Attend: Anyone interested in learning more and participating in a discussion about the business of good.

Sharon Alvarez, Professor at the Fisher College of Business

Sharon Alvarez, an Associate Professor of Management and Human Resources at The Ohio State University, teaches entrepreneurship to undergraduates, MBAs. and Ph.D. students. Her work focuses on the origins of entrepreneurial opportunities and how to build firms that realize these opportunities. Recently she has become interested in opportunity formation in poverty settings and how the pursuit of these opportunities might alleviate poverty. She was the founder of the Center for Entrepreneurship at Fisher and currently works together with the Business Builders and the NetImpact students to put on the Alleviating Poverty Through Entrepreneurship Summit. Professor Alvarez has recently returned from her annual trip to Bolivia where she takes a class of MBA students to a real world experience of introducing organizational theories to third world countries. Her annual trip promotes social entrepreneurial thinking and provides practical application of the organizational theories that she teaches.
