This blog is a reflection on my experience attending a Negotiations lecture during Fisher College of Business’s Preview Day. As a graduate assistant, I volunteered at the event to interact with prospective students and support them as they explored their graduate school options. I was especially excited to meet and engage with students interested in Fisher’s Master of Human Resource Management program. What I did not expect was that, along with the visiting students, I would get to sit in on a sample lecture on Negotiations.

I recently finished my mid-terms for the first semester of my MHRM program, and I would like to share an experience that stood out to me and turned out to be one of the most engaging assessments so far. One of the main reasons I chose the Fisher MHRM program was its focus on learning by doing. I did not want a degree that only lived in textbooks. I wanted one that challenged me to apply ideas, solve real-world problems, and learn alongside people with diverse perspectives. This semester, I got that opportunity in the revamped seminar-style Contemporary Topics in HR class. On August 26, I walked into my first session, not quite sure what to expect. By the end, I knew this was the kind of learning experience I came to grad school for.

Originally from India, I had been working in the development sector as a researcher before deciding to pursue my Master’s in Human Resource Management at the Fisher College of Business.
