Columbus’ Most Social Day: My Post-Midterm Adventure

October 31, 2025, could easily be crowned Columbus’ Most Social Day. There seemed to be something happening at every corner of the city. After a long, exhausting week of midterm tests and a few final exams, I decided it was time to close the books and enjoy some well-deserved fun.

My evening began at the Fisher Alumni Awards, a beautifully organized event honoring alumni who embody Fisher’s legacy of excellence. The night was filled with laughter, inspiring stories, delicious food, and that unmistakable sense of pride that comes from being part of the Fisher community. I even got a picture with Brutus Buckeye, who just turned 60!

A quick side note, Brutus’ birthday celebration took place the day before, on October 30, and I really wanted to go. Beyond the attempt to break a Guinness World Record, what drew me most was its theme of resilience,  the ability to pick yourself up and keep going after setbacks. That message resonated deeply, especially in the middle of MBA life. I waited in line for 30 minutes, but eventually left to prepare for an exam. Still, the theme stayed with me.

Back at the Awards, one moment stood out: Nicole Balkenbusch (BSBA ’07), Chief Storyteller and FP&A Director at WW Amazon Stores, received the Professional Achievement Award. Her advice: work hard and play hard, plan for flexibility, and never say never, struck a chord. And her final words:

“You can be what you can’t see, and clear the pathway for others.”

So in the spirit of balance, I ended my night at a Halloween party hosted by the MHRM program. It was filled with laughter, creative costumes, and good vibes all around. A perfect reminder that MBA life is about growth, connection, and joy both inside and outside the classroom.
