Choosing with Purpose in My Second Semester
I came into my MBA program with a clear intention: to grow from being technically strong in accounting and finance into someone who can think more broadly about strategy, value creation, and long-term business impact. I wanted transformation not just in what I know, but in how I make decisions. The first semester provided a shared foundation across core disciplines and gradually trained me to see everyday problems through a business lens.
The second semester introduced something new: choice. Alongside the remaining core courses, we could select three electives from more than forty options. I remember scrolling through the list feeling both excited and overwhelmed. The abundance of opportunity created a paradox: freedom to choose also meant responsibility to choose wisely. In many ways, it mirrored the real business world, where leaders must set direction without perfect certainty.
That moment forced reflection. Should I deepen my finance foundation or explore unfamiliar territory to stretch my thinking? Conversations with second-year students, professors, and my academic advisor helped transform uncertainty into clarity. There was even quiet self-doubt—wondering whether I was choosing too safely or not boldly enough—but honest dialogue gradually turned hesitation into intention.
I ultimately chose Corporate Finance, Valuation Analysis, and Marketing Research and Analytics. Together, they strengthen financial judgment, sharpen understanding of business value, and connect strategy to customer insight. More importantly, they align with the leader I hoped to become when starting this journey: someone who connects numbers, strategy, and people to create lasting impact.
I am now six weeks into this decision, and it has already been deeply fulfilling. The classroom conversations, the challenge of new ideas, and the relationships forming along the way have reminded me why I chose this journey in the first place.
The story is still unfolding, but I am grateful for the learning, reflection, and connections shaping it so far and for the quiet moments that continue to define what this MBA experience truly means.
