Three Tips to Utilize OCM Resources to Land a Job Offer
My name is Qingyuan; I am currently a student in the Master of Accounting program here at Fisher. I would like to share three tips for balancing a job search and keeping up with coursework. The beginning of the program is always the busiest if you are seeking a full-time job after graduation while also trying to perform well in core courses.
Tip No. 1: Begin your job search process early
While the Fall semester starts around late August, you can interact with the Office of Career Management at Fisher College of Business in early June. Make sure you utilize the "My Career Resources", which covers almost every stage of the job searching process (from "Career Assessments" to "Negotiation [Job Offers]"). Meanwhile, I would highly suggest you meet in person or virtually with Steve Singer from the Office of Career Management sometime in the summer if you have any questions regarding the job search process. You can also schedule a mock interview with Steve if necessary.
Tip No. 2: Network with classmates and recruiters during orientation
Each year, there will be some students entering the program with a returned offer from the company that they interned with in the summer. Talking with them is really helpful and beneficial because they can tell you who to network with and some "internal" information about the company that you cannot find on the website.
Our orientation this year ended with an event called "Mix & Mingle", where you can network with recruiters at the event, and most importantly, be aware of the deadline and application process early on.
Tip No. 3: Stop by the Office of Career Management frequently and attend related events
The Office of Career Management is located on the first floor of Gerlach Hall (as shown below), and all your Master of Accounting courses will take place in the same building. Thus, please make sure to stop by and see the digital screen at OCM so that you are aware of the related events (career fairs, recruiters' office hours, etc.).
Above are the three tips I have on how to utilize OCM resources to land a job offer. I hope you find the information helpful!
