Always a Buckeye: 3 Reasons Why I Chose Fisher for my MAcc Degree
Hi, future Buckeyes. My name is Qingyuan Dong, and I am currently both a student and graduate ambassador of the Master of Accounting program at the Fisher College of Business.
I grew up in Shanghai China before I came to THE Ohio State University. I graduated from Fisher with my BSBA degree in Finance, Marketing, and Economics and with Honors in Business Administration in May 2022. In addition to the world-class academic experience, I have also joined many student organizations and formed many meaningful relationships with both my professors and peers.
In the coming months, I will write several blogs to share my experience with the Fisher MAcc program. For my first post, I want to briefly explain the three reasons why I chose Fisher for my MAcc degree:
- Career Support: Most people choose a MAcc program to have a good career outcome, and the Office of Career Management at Fisher will help you to develop strategy and tools to execute your internship even before you arrive on campus. For our class, we have access to a Carmen page called "My Career Management" covering all aspects of job searching (resume, LinkedIn, networking, etc.). Meanwhile, you can schedule appointments with a dedicated career consultant on handshake.
- Flexible and STEM-Designated Curriculum: The Fisher MAcc program will allow you to customize your education. Out of 31 credit hours required to graduate, only 10 credit hours are the required core with the remaining 21 credit hours being electives. For international students, the stem-designated curriculum will allow you to be more competitive when searching for jobs because you will learn lots of data and analytics skills throughout the program.
- THE Ohio State University community: While almost all MAcc courses take place at Gerlach Hall, you can explore any place on campus during your leisure time. For instance, you can go to the Recreation and Physical Activity Center (RPAC), Ohio State’s largest recreation facility that combines innovative fitness spaces, and versatile event areas and is located in the heart of campus, southeast of Ohio Stadium. Also, you can attend any events held by Graduate Student Organizations at Fisher.
In summary, I believe Fisher is a great place for anyone who will consider a MAcc degree. I look forward to providing more details regarding the Fisher MAcc program with my blog adventure in the next 9 months. Please feel free to reach out to me or the Fisher Graduate Program Office if you have any questions.
