A Career Search with OSU

Entering into a career search is a daunting task at any level.  Characterized by excitement for what the future holds and nervousness about the uncertainty, it can be emotionally and physically draining on top of normal coursework.  However, going through the application and interview processes while at Ohio State mitigates much of this stress.  Career services steps in before you even step on campus by sending out career modules which helps students contextualize their career goals and draft updated resumes.  As you apply to positions, Ohio State brings the recruiters to you through job fairs and even on-campus office hours with top tier firms.

Once your applications are complete and you begin preparing for interviews, Fisher continues to ensure you are prepared.  First, they provide the opportunity to schedule mock interviews with career services to practice your elevator pitch, reflect on your experiences, and respond to practice questions.  There are also private rooms that Fisher allows students to reserve for any remote interviews.  This makes it easy to balance class and other involvement with your job search, finding time to interview without breaking the stride of your day.

All of these resources help students receive recognition and succeed in the interview process.  However, my favorite part of the interview process stems from how easy it is to make connections while at Ohio State.  Recruiters understand the quality of candidates Fisher’s programs provide and work to give you the best experience learning their firm’s culture.  This breeds many opportunities to connect with young workers in the role you apply for and learn if that job or company seems like the right fit for you.  Their perspective ranges from anything about the city you are looking at to the demands of daily work.  Additionally, many of the bigger firms have Ohio State alumni they will connect you with creating a deeper bond and more beneficial perspective relating to shared past experiences.

With recruiting for accounting firms occurring so soon after the Fisher MAcc program begins, it adds stress to students already adjusting to a new environment.  Fisher ensures students are prepared and supports them in making a decision in line with their needs and aspirations, which makes the process feel frictionless and rewarding.  While this task is daunting, it has been one of the best experiences of my early time with Fisher!
