My Journey to Fisher: Academic Experience in a Top Business School

Starting my MBA at Fisher College of Business is the greatest academic and professional challenge of my life. My name is Sergio León, a first-year international student from Peru, and this is my first academic experience outside of my country. A year ago, while researching opportunities to study abroad, I discovered Fisher—a place that offered exactly what I was looking for: academic excellence, strong professional connections across industries, and most importantly, a community that truly supports one another.

The Challenge and the Opportunity

From the very beginning, I realized that being admitted was just the first step; the real challenge is to combine and achieve excellent performance given the rigor and the competitive environment. Fisher stands out not only for its academic prestige, recognized across the U.S. and the world, but also for the dedication of its faculty and leaders to build a cohesive, focused, and resilient community.

My First Weeks at Fisher

In these initial four weeks, I have immersed myself in an experience designed to sharpen both technical and soft skills—key tools to face the professional challenges ahead. Every class, team project, and conversation with my peers is an opportunity to grow both personally and professionally.

Beyond the Classroom

What truly makes Fisher unique, however, is life beyond the classroom. The extracurricular activities go far beyond simple social gatherings. They are thoughtfully designed to help new students embrace the Ohio State culture, foster a deep sense of belonging, and strengthen connections among colleagues. These experiences will allow me to build authentic networks and friendships that I know will last well beyond the MBA.

Reflection and Belonging

Leaving my beloved Peru was not easy. Yet Fisher has made this transition smoother thanks to the constant support of its community. Today, I feel not only academically challenged but also deeply inspired to give my best, grow alongside my classmates, and leave a lasting mark on this institution.

I am proud to call Fisher my new academic home. This journey is just beginning, and I am convinced it will shape my personal and professional life in profound ways.
