Making the most of your time in Columbus
Hi everyone! As a Columbus native, I am excited to share some of the things that make Columbus, Ohio one of the best cities in the country. In this blog post, I will introduce you to some of the amazing places, food, and activities that make Columbus more than just a college town.
First, and most importantly, the food! As a MAcc student, your time in Columbus will be limited to two semesters, so there's only a limited time for culinary exploration. If you're a pizza fan with an open mind, I recommend Donato's pizza, founded in Columbus in 1963, serving thin crust pizza with edge-to-edge toppings. If you're looking for a more upscale dining experience, Columbus is home to the Cameron Mitchell restaurants, which feature a range of cuisine from classic American diner fare at Cap City Diner, to fine seafood at Mitchell's Ocean Club. Of course, it would be impossible to provide a list of must-visit restaurants without including Buckeye Donuts. A tradition dating back to 1969, Buckeye Donuts is located a short 5 minute walk from Fisher and serves incredible doughnuts, coffee, and breakfast foods (including a chocolate and peanut butter "Buckeye" doughnut that is highly recommended).
Outside of the finding good eats, there is plenty to do in Columbus. While the Ohio State Buckeyes are Columbus's main athletic attraction, Columbus is home to its very own NHL franchise, the Columbus Blue Jackets. While the team won't be competing for the Stanley Cup anytime soon, there is plenty of fun to be had enjoying the atmosphere of Columbus hockey in Nationwide Area. In addition, Columbus is home to German Village and Italian Village, which are great to explore if you like small businesses, bookstores, and authentic cultural experiences. Finally, if you're looking to spend some time outside, Columbus has 20 Metro Parks with over 230 miles of trails, a handful of which run adjacent to campus.
As much as Ohio State and Fisher College of Business have to explore academically, Columbus has a plethora of activities to enjoy when for your time outside of the classroom.
I hope this blog post gave you something to look forward to when considering your future in Columbus with the Ohio State University!
