Beginning a New Chapter at Ohio State

Hello everybody! I am Daniel Castleberry and I recently began at Ohio State as a student ambassador for the Master of Accounting program in the Fisher College of Business.  Over the course of the year I will be writing blog posts to share my experience at Fisher and all that our specialized Masters programs have to offer.  This post will give me a chance to introduce myself to you all and share a bit about my background.

Prior to pursuing my Masters at Ohio State I studied at Wittenberg University majoring in Accounting and History.  I loved my experience at a small liberal arts campus and all the opportunities it offered for undergraduate involvement.  However, to round out my 150 credit hours I sought a Masters level education, and found my fit at OSU.  Beginning the program here I immediately felt comfortable with my decision to join the Fisher MAcc program.  This decision revolved around the data analytics emphasis of the program and Fisher's resources for students.

Upon finishing my undergraduate education I felt eager to join the work force and build career experience for my resume but just a few weeks at Fisher helped me to realize how much more this program benefits my professional development.  The data analytics courses provide technical skills learning the coding language r.  Other case-based classes entail meaningful projects studying real data from major companies, providing experience reworking complex problems.  This classwork provides meaningful experience that will help display an eagerness to learn and strong analytical skills to potential employers.

The career resources available to students in Fisher graduate programs help students visualize professional goals, provide exposure to major employers across industries, and help students prepare for interviewing.  Applying to jobs with the help of Fisher enabled me to interact with recruiters from many companies and identify which jobs fit my experience and interests.  More importantly, the exposure to recruiters and job fairs helped me identify where I felt a cultural fit with potential employers.

Although I am only a few weeks into the program, I already feel like I am reaping the benefits of a graduate education from Fisher. I am excited to continue in my professional growth as I take many more courses and continue the job search process.  Be sure to check back here and stay up to date as I share more about my experiences and the perks of advancing your education with Fisher.
