5 Tips for Locking In and Having Fun: At the Same Time!
Life as a Master of Accounting (MAcc) student at The Ohio State University is a whirlwind of coursework, projects, networking events, and career planning. It’s easy to get swept up in the fast-paced demands of the program, but maintaining focus while enjoying the journey is vital for personal growth and success. Here’s how I’ve found balance and stayed motivated through this busy yet rewarding experience.
1. The Hustle of Academics
The OSU MAcc program is rigorous, demanding sharp time management skills and unwavering focus. Between group projects, case studies, and preparing for CPA exams, it’s easy to feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day. Staying organized is crucial—I use tools like Google Calendar to block out study sessions and prioritize deadlines. While the program is academically challenging, it’s also rewarding. The intensity sharpens problem-solving skills and fosters collaboration, preparing us for high-pressure roles in the accounting world.
2. Making Time for Connection
Amid the academic hustle, it’s important to connect with peers and faculty. Networking events and team projects aren’t just tasks to check off—they’re opportunities to build lasting relationships. Whether it’s working on a challenging group case or chatting after class, these interactions create a support system that makes the program more manageable and enjoyable. Plus, relationships built during this time often turn into valuable professional connections down the line.
3. The Importance of Staying Active
Physical activity is an essential escape from the mental demands of the program. For me, going to the gym each morning sets a productive tone for the day. On weekends, attending Buckeye basketball and football games provides a much-needed break from study sessions. These moments remind me that while academics are important, so is carving out time for myself. Taking care of your body and mind ensures you can stay focused on your goals.
4. Embracing Fun Amid the Chaos
The MAcc program is challenging, but it doesn’t mean you can’t have fun. Attending games at Value City Arena or Ohio Stadium is an electric experience. Beyond sports, Columbus offers countless activities to enjoy—whether it’s exploring local restaurants, attending cultural events, or simply catching up with friends over coffee. These moments of joy recharge me and add balance to the demanding schedule.
5. The Bigger Picture
At the end of the day, it’s about keeping sight of your long-term goals. The OSU MAcc program is more than just classes and exams—it’s a stepping stone to an exciting future. By staying organized, prioritizing relationships, and making time for fun, I’m setting myself up for success. Life may be busy, but finding moments of joy and relaxation keeps me grounded and motivated.
