Outside the Classroom!
The time spent in the MHRM program can go by so quickly, but when you graduate from this program you are leaving with so many great experiences knowledge. You are prepared to be an amazing contribution to an organization with everything you’ve learned and done in the program. But this is not the only thing that you will be leaving with, you are also going to be leaving with friends and connections for life!
Right from the start of the program, you have opportunities to meet people and begin creating those relationships. Almost every class that you will be in, you will be involved in a group project of some sort. This is not only a great way to prepare you for real life works with teams, but it is a great way to start meeting others in the program. For me personally, some of my strongest relationships in the program have started in group projects! For me in my group projects, we don’t want to stop talking after the projects is done, we’ve met up after to just hang out and strengthen our relationships! The people that you are in group projects with often turn into great study buddies as well!
Another way to meet some great buddies is through the “Buddy System” that the MHRM council puts together. The program partners first year students in the program with someone who is in their last year or have at least a year under their belt. When I started the program, my buddy was life saver. I came in and had so many questions and was constantly searching for advice without knowing where to get it. After getting my buddy, I was able to ask her about how I should prepare for classes, what exams were like, how I could get involved, and so much more! My buddy was my first strong connection, I know that I can always go to her for advice about anything, even after she’s graduated!
Other than academics, there are so many opportunities to meet your classmates outside of the classroom. The MHRM council hosts and plans so many social events, and they are all the time. If you can’t make it to one, you don’t have to wait long for another one to happen! They range from a variety of events like tailgates for games, going out bowling, roller blading, ice skating, work out classes and so much more! These social events are truly where the relationships are created because you are connecting on personal levels! Overall in the program, you are not only going to leave with experience and knowledge that you can contribute to an organization…. you are going to leave with great relationships and connections!
