Center for Operational Excellence Executive Director Peg Pennington demonstrates a rational, logical method of cutting the heart of the problems in an organization. The cause map is a visual representation of a crucial question in lean thinking: "What is the problem we are trying to solve?" By effectively working backwards through an event, the cause map helps illuminate the wide-ranging, marrow-deep gaps in a process instead of skimming the surface.
