Background

Somak Paul is a dual degree candidate at the Department of Statistics and the Fisher College of Business. He earned an MBA in Operations from Purdue University, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Instrumentation from Jadavpur University, India.

Somak worked for over eight years in industry before joining the PhD program. He worked in various sectors such as retail, manufacturing, transportation, distribution, and banking. He worked in top Fortune 500 companies like Amazon.com, IBM, and Cummins Inc. Prior to joining Fisher, Somak was an Operations Manager at Amazon.com responsible for managing the outbound flow operations in one of its warehouses.

TEACHING

BUSMGT 3230: Introduction to Operations Management: Improving Competitiveness in Organizations

Somak teaches the core course in Operations and Supply Chain for business majors or people interested in Operations. The course is designed to provide students with an understanding as to how effective operations and supply chain management contributes to the competitiveness and survival of an organization. Students are introduced to concepts, principles, and techniques that can be leveraged to analyze, control, and improve critical processes responsible for efficiently making and delivering goods and services without losing sight of the goal of RIGHT6. 

Prerequisite: Econ 2001.01 (200), 2002.01 (201); and Stat 1430 (133) or equivalent.
