George Krempley once served as an adjunct faculty member and now returns as a Senior Lecturer in the Finance Department of the Fisher College of Business, Ohio State University, bringing with him more than 35 years of in-depth insurance and risk management industry experience. He focuses on teaching risk management and insurance courses to both undergraduate and graduate students.  Mr. Krempley is active in advising students regarding career opportunities and assists in outreach activities to risk management and insurance industry.

Previously, Mr. Krempley served as Co-Director of the University of South Carolina’s Moore School of Business, Risk and Uncertainty Management Center.  Mr. Krempley served as a Lecturer in the Moore School’s Finance Department, where he taught risk management and insurance courses, and also created the Moore School’s capstone class in Enterprise Risk Management project management. Prior to joining the University of South Carolina, Mr. Krempley served as a Principal Consultant for the Robert E. Nolan Company for 7 years, where he managed numerous major consulting projects.

Mr. Krempley was President and CEO for NAMIC Insurance Company and Ohio Bar Liability Insurance Company, where he delivered exceptional underwriting results.  Earlier, he was President and CEO of Automobile Club Insurance Company in Columbus, Ohio, a subsidiary of the American Automobile Association.  He also he served in the capacity of COO of the company. 

Earlier, he was Managing Director of Insurance for AAA and Vice President/COO of AAA Life.  He was also a Vice President, Regional Operations/Marketing, for Merchants Mutual Insurance Group, where he was responsible for branch operations, marketing, distribution management, and strategy for this small commercial and personal lines company. 

Mr. Krempley began his career at the Insurance Company of North America, the industry’s leading writer of commercial package business at that time.  At INA, he received world-class training in underwriting, product management and risk-based pricing.  Following the merger with Connecticut General, he turned around CIGNA’s most unprofitable branch.  This led to his promotion to Vice President of Planning and Operations Research for Claims and Reinsurance. 


Mr. Krempley earned his BA in Philosophy from Colgate University. Later, he attended the American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird) where he was awarded his MBA in International Management with distinction.  Mr.  Krempley is licensed as a property casualty insurance agent by the state of Ohio and holds the professional credential of Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC).

  • BUSFIN 4311 - Life and Health Insurance

    Basics of the life insurance and health insurance industry and contracts. Prereq: 3300 (640), BusMgt 2320 (330), and BusMHR 2292 (BusAdm 499.01). Not open to students with credit for 741.

  • BUSFIN 4312 - Employee Benefits Plans

    Fundamentals of insurance topics related to the human resource function such as health and retirement benefits, and COBRA. Prereq: BusMgt 2320 (330), 3300 (640), and BusMHR 2292 (BusAdm 499.01). Not open to students with credit for 741.

  • BUSFIN 7291 - Enterprise Risk Management II

    An Action-based Graduate level course. Students apply theories of risk management, hedging strategies, and value at risk to cases. Prereq: 829 or Prereq or concur: 7290. Not open to students with credit for 834.

  • BUSFIN 4310 - Commercial Property and Casualty Insurance

    Fundamentals of commercial property and liability insurance, including commercial property and liability contracts, and the regulation and financial analysis of property and liability insurers. Prereq: 3300 (640), BusMgt 2320 (330), 2321 (331), and BusMHR 2292 (BusAdm 499.01). Not open to students with credit for 749.
