Background

Harvey recently retired from Assurex Global, the third largest insurance/risk management consulting organization in the world. Assurex is owned by more than 60 of the larger privately owned commercial insurance agencies across North America. During his tenure as CEO insurance premium placements grow from $ 5 billion to $ 19 billion and the organization's international presence expanded from less than a dozen to over sixty countries. Harvey also managed two Assurex affiliates, an offshore reinsurance company and an investment-banking firm that facilitated management buyouts of more than a fifteen insurance agencies.

Prior experience include more than a dozen years as a venture capitalist, supporting nearly 20 emerging companies, and six years sales and marketing responsibilities with XEROX. His has been CEO of five companies, including two start-ups and holds a BA from Georgetown and MBA from George Washington.

Mr. Harvey's current focus is advising management on issues such as marketing, distribution, and leadership, raising capital and effective use of directors/advisors. He is a director of a West Virginia health insurer as well as Michigan software company. He also advises three other firms in the Columbus area.

  • BUSML 3241 - Introduction to Entrepreneurial Marketing

    Focuses on marketing concepts of entrepreneurs leading growth-oriented companies. Typically these are small, young companies with ambitions to become major enterprises. Prereq: Econ 2001.01 (200) or AEDEcon 200, or equiv, and Math 1130 (130), or equiv. Not open to students with credit for 4241 or 490.

  • BUSML 4241 - Entrepreneurial Marketing

    Examines best practices in Entrepreneurial Marketing including analysis of marketing opportunities, identification of target audience, development of marketing strategy, brand positioning and an integrated marketing plan. Prereq: 4201 (750), 4202 (758), and BusMHR 2292 (BusAdm 499.01).
