Mark is a Master Black Belt Global Lean Leader at GE Aviation and is responsible for driving continuous improvement efforts and developing lean talent across 80 domestic and global supply chain operations. In 2005, Mark received GE’s Six Sigma certification as Master Black Belt and in 2013 received his Masters of Business in Operational Excellence from The Ohio State University Fisher School of Business. He is a guest MBOE instructor at OSU since 2014 and a MBOE student coach in 2015. 

Unknowingly at the time, Mark began his lean journey by attending Iowa State University. At ISU, his advance course professor consulted with the Iowa Commerce Department and brought to the classroom his experience and passion for continuous improvement. Mark met Dr. Edward Deming, read “The Goal”, and in 1987 received his BS in Industrial Education & Technology. 

Mark began his career at Honeywell Micro Switch in Freeport, Illinois, and was responsible for introducing SPC on key processes as well as teaching the fundamentals of process variation to the business, beginning his first role as sensei/student. 

In 1992, Mark moved to Rockford Powertrain as the Mfg Engineer Manager, leading the engineering group in executing a massive two-year cellular manufacturing conversion of a UAW shop. Mark broadened his financial understanding of manufacturing as well as the soft skills necessary to enact business-critical change in a ‘concrete head’ environment. 

Two years later, Mark was hired by SSI Technologies, a tier-two supplier of anti-lock brake sensors. At SSI, Mark experienced the automotive world of high-volume, low-mix and the extreme focus on defect-free production. Here he learned Ford’s 8D’s, SMED and true Poka-Yoke. Missing the smell of a metal cutting shop, Mark pursued and was hired by Unison Industries, an entrepreneurial-propelled aerospace ignition system manufacturer and moved back to Rockford in 1995.
