The Perfect Handoff: Keys to success in external collaboration
Aravind Chandrasekaran, associate professor of management sciences, Fisher College of Business

Prof. Chandrasekaran

Collaboration – whether it’s across departments or the broader supply chain – is a critical capability to succeed in any industry. When handoffs successfully facilitate the flow of information, products hit the market faster, patients are better cared for, and customers come back. The risks, however, are many: Employee burnout and frustration, intellectual property leaks and scope creep, to name just a few.

So how can companies avoid these roadblocks and collaborate with partners across departmental and organizational silos to fuel, not drain, competitive edge?

Award-winning researcher and Fisher College of Business Prof. Aravind Chandrasekaran in this presentation draws from his research and other fieldwork on process collaboration to unearth key insights that can help managers mitigate collaboration challenges when working outside their four walls. He’ll outline how using simpler design rules, developing process agility and having the right metrics can help companies perform well when collaborating externally.

Joining Forces: Parker Hannifin and Cleveland Clinic's journey to new innovation
Pete Buca, VP of Technology and Innovation, Fluid Connectors Group, Parker Hannifin

Companies that stay ahead of the competition know the next great idea might not happen inside their four walls. In today’s fast-moving world, game-changing innovations can be hiding throughout the supply chain – and the key to bringing them to market is collaboration.

COE’s featured keynote shines a spotlight on a remarkable story of collaborative innovation featuring two major players in their respective industries: manufacturer Parker Hannifin Corp. and healthcare giant Cleveland Clinic. Keynote Pete Buca, VP of Technology and Innovation at Parker’s Fluid Connectors Group, will trace how Parker has partnered with the neighboring organization to develop a pipeline of medical device ideas in excess of 100, many from physicians and some that have made it to the market.

In his keynote, Buca will outline Parker Hannifin’s foundational corporate innovation process and how leaders joined forces with the Cleveland Clinic to develop the latest transformative products in healthcare in a way that’s benefiting both organizations and the broader medical device industry. He’ll also offer attendees a first look at a new partnership in the works right in Columbus.

This session is a can’t-miss opportunity for product and process development leaders to benchmark a successful example of collaborative innovation right inside the Buckeye State.
