The Undergraduate Entrepreneurship & Innovation Minor is offered through a collaboration of the following colleges: Fisher College of Business, the College of Engineering, and the College of Arts and Sciences (Department of Design). Designed for capturing the economic value in creative ideas for commercially viable products and services, this educational program enhances a student’s understanding of and appreciation for entrepreneurship and innovation.

    Curriculum Requirements

    The revised minor is comprised of five courses, four of which are required courses and one of which in an elective.

    BUSMHR 3510 – New Venture Creation – Credits: 3

    DESIGN 2700 – Introduction to Design Practice – Credits: 3
    (Prerequisites: Econ 2002.01 or equivalent)

    MECHENG 5682 – Fundamentals of Product Design Engineering – Credits: 4

    MECHENG 5682.02 – Product Design Engineering for Entrepreneurs
    (for non-engineering students) – Credits: 3

    BUSADM 4510 – Entrepreneurship & Innovation Practicum – Credits: 3;
    (Prerequisites: 3510.01, 2700, 5682 and one of the Elective Track courses)

    Elective courses

    The minor requires students to successfully complete one of the following elective-track courses. It is strongly recommended that students complete BUSMHR 3510 prior to completing their elective course.

  • General Questions

    How do I apply for the Entrepreneurship & Innovation Minor?

    There is no application process for the Entrepreneurship & Innovation Minor. You should inform your college advisor of your intentions to complete the minor.

     

    Who approves my Entrepreneurship & Innovation Minor?

    There is no formal approval process required by Fisher College of Business. As long as you have met the course requirements your college can approve your minor. An approved program form can be provided if your college requires it. You can obtain this from a FCOB undergraduate advisor. Call 292-2715 for an appointment.

     

    I am majoring/intending to major in business. Can I use minor courses for major requirements?

    No. Minor courses do not count toward any business requirement (other than free electives) or as prerequisites for further study in business.

     

    Can I use Entrepreneurship & Innovation Minor courses in my major?

    Generally, no, unless your college specifically permits it. Please contact your college advisor for information.

     

    Can I use Entrepreneurship & Innovation Minor courses in another minor?

    Each minor must contain at least 12 unique hours.

     

    What grade do I need to earn for a course to count in the minor?

    You must earn a C- or better for a course to be listed on the minor. You must earn a 2.00 cumulative point-hour ratio in your minor courses.

     

    Can I take a minor course pass/non-pass?

    No. Courses taken Pass/Non-Pass cannot count on the Entrepreneurship Minor.

  • Prerequisites

    What are the prerequisites for the Entrepreneurship & Innovation Minor?

    It is strongly recommended that you complete BUSMHR 3510 before completing the elective course. The only required sequencing is that the practicum course, BUSADM 4510, must be taken after completion of 3510, 2700, 5682 and the elective track course.

     

    Otherwise, there are no prerequisites to begin taking courses for the Entrepreneurship & Innovation Minor; however, individual courses may have prerequisites, which are listed under Course Descriptions.

     

    Any variations may be requested in writing and approved by the Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship in Fisher College of Business.

     

    Can I start taking minor courses before I complete the prerequisites?

    There are no prerequisites to begin taking the three required core courses for the Entrepreneurship & Innovation Minor; however, individual courses may have prerequisites, which are listed under Course Descriptions.

  • Substitutions

    Can I substitute a different business course for one of the required minor courses?

    Variations in the program are generally not permitted. Any variations must be requested in writing and approved by the Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship in Fisher College of Business.

  • Transfer Credit Applicability

    Can I apply transfer credit to fulfill minor courses?

    A maximum of 6 hours of transfer credit for equivalent courses may count towards the minor.
