In the United States, the top 10 managers owned about 5 percent of the U.S. stock market in 1980, whereas in 2016 they owned about 23 percent. Prof. Itzhak Ben-David and his colleagues found that this development has increased the volatility of the underlying securities in the U.S. stock market.
