Young voters are fired up and research shows they will be a decisive factor in the 2020 election. From health care to the racial wealth gap, here are the issues college students, including a pair of graduate students at Fisher, said matter to them in this election.

Ellora Majumder and Kyle Madura may not have felt like pioneers, but when COVID-19 turned their sure-fire summer global internships upside down, the Fisher students were certainly in unfamiliar territory. 

Naturally, a challenging undergraduate experience can create a reluctance to pursue a graduate degree. For Malak Abdel-Hadi, earning her Master of Business Operational Excellence degree caps off a journey of personal and professional growth, and with each passing day she is more confident in her choice of degree and in herself.

Disclosing one’s disability is a completely personal decision and is typically needed when a barrier prevents someone from competing for a job, performing a job or gaining equal access to a benefit. Employers should understand candidates’ rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act and provide reasonable accommodations to those who need it.

The Blackwell Inn is known as a swanky hotel on the Ohio State University campus. Celebrities like Jerry Lewis, Stevie Nicks, Christopher Reeve and Van Halen have stayed there. But this fall, it is housing students.

With the help of the Office of Global Business at Fisher College of Business, the Brazil Gateway connected three Fisher students with virtual internship opportunities with a Brazilian consulting company that yielded positive results and feedback for two of its clients. 

Ellora Majumder was supposed to be in Singapore this summer. Instead, she is sitting in her parents’ basement. Majumder, a rising senior logistics major, is one of countless students across the country whose internship plans changed this summer due to the coronavirus pandemic. But a new virtual internship opportunity at Fisher provided Majumder an opportunity to get a global experience.

Sarah Steenrod, director of Undergraduate Career Consultation and Programs at Fisher, was named the recipient of the Dick Maxwell Award. The honor recognizes a staff or faculty member who has made an outstanding contribution and significantly improved the quality of the higher educational experience for a student with a disability or within their department in respect to students with disabilities.

Students enrolled in the Dean's Leadership Academy quickly adjusted their project plans to benefit those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Many MiF programs offer a route to more specialized professional qualifications. In 2018, Fisher teamed up with the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Association. The deal means students can apply for scholarships to sit the Level I CAIA exam, the first step towards earning a CAIA charter.

For many accounting graduates, passing the CPA exam can be a daunting task. It was for Mackenzie Hitchcock, but the MAcc alumna did far better than simply pass the exam. She earned accolades for her performance on it.  

At the Fisher College of Business, faculty and staff members plan to host a series of forums to analyze ways the college can address the barriers students of color face — both outside of Ohio State as well as within the college itself, said Cynthia Turner, assistant dean and chief diversity officer for the college.

A worldwide pandemic may have stopped much of the world in its tracks, but students and project partners involved in Fisher's Health Care Industry Immersion program didn’t skip a beat.
