Quick application checklist

Since we process applications on a rolling admissions basis, it is always advantageous to apply early – as applications are submitted and become complete, we will review them and make admissions decisions. The application is now live for both spring semester (January 2015 start) and autumn semester (August 2015 start).  The deadline to apply for the January start is October 15, so you still have plenty of time to get ready.

Here is your quick checklist:

1) Request an official copy of any transcript you have from an undergraduate or graduate institution where you received any credit.  A scanned or electronic copy of an official transcript is all you need to submit for application review purposes.

2) Register to take the GMAT or the GRE.  The GMAT is still our preferred test for the MBA program if you have not yet taken either test; however, we will accept the GRE and you will not be at any disadvantage if you choose to take the GRE.  You may be able to waive out of the test if you meet certain requirements.

3) Request individuals to serve as your references.  We require TWO letters of recommendation.  We prefer letters of recommendation from current or previous supervisors, followed by letters from colleagues, clients, professors, or anyone you may work with on a professional board or community organization.

4) Update your resume.

5) Start thinking about and drafting your personal statement and completing your video essay.

6) International students only – register for the TOEFL or IELTS.

No separate deadlines for the GMAT waiver

You may have noticed that we now only have one application deadline per enrollment term.  We previously asked applicants to submit applications four weeks earlier than the posted deadline if you were requesting a waiver of the GMAT exam.  The applicants who were asked to take the GMAT for admission consideration did not really have time to take the exam and be considered for the same term, so we have eliminated this “early” deadline.  Regardless of whether you are taking the GMAT exam, there is one application deadline per term.   If your request to waive the GMAT is denied, you can reapply for a future term.  We will be able to use all of your previously submitted application materials – you will just need to submit an updated application form and send Ohio State/Fisher your GMAT scores.

Things to keep in mind as you prepare your application

With the November 8th deadline quickly approaching for the winter quarter term, many of you are probably working on getting your application materials finalized.  We often get questions from applicants as to whether you can submit your applications online even though all of your application materials may not be ready to go. 

Here are some things to keep in mind:

  • We will create a file for you as we recieve your supplemental application materials, so feel free to send them whenever they are ready as long as your first name, last name and program name (MBA for Working Professionals) are indicated on the items you are submitting.
    •  Since most of your application will be completed or uploaded online (application form, resume, personal statement, and electronic letters of recommendation), I am primarily referring to transcripts and test scores
  • Your references can submit their online letters of recommendation at any time – they do not have to wait for you to submit your application online.  As soon as they receive the link, they can submit.  Do not worry if their letter of recommendation arrives prior to your application.
  • You do not need to order transcripts if you were an undergraduate or previous graduate student at The Ohio State University.
  • Make sure that the testing agency sends your official scores to us if you did not indicate that The Ohio State University should recieve the scores at the time you took the exam.
  • Once we have a complete application (online application form and all supplemental materials), we will review your application.
  • We review applications on a rolling basis and will make decisions for winter quarter until the class is full.
    • If the class becomes full, it is possible that we will ask applicants to defer your admission to a future term – we will notify you if this applies to your application.

Become a Business Nut: 2011 applications are online!

The Fisher MBA for Working Professionals program is now accepting applications for 2011.  Our deadline for the winter quarter (January) start is November 8.

Perhaps you’ve been thinking about going back to school for some time now, but you aren’t sure that you want to give up your precious evenings.  As summer draws to a close, you may be anxiously anticipating the return of your favorite TV shows and sitting down to watch them after a long day of work.  Well, spend a few minutes on the Ohio State campus right before fall quarter and you will realize that there is no better place to be.   The leaves are beginning to change, the weather is cooling off, and the campus is buzzing with the sights and sounds of Buckeye football.  But MBA students don’t really care about any of that, now, do they?
