Meet Jaret Waters, a sophomore from Copley, Ohio, double majoring in economics and Spanish. In addition to his interest in journalism, Jaret likes learning about different Spanish dialects. This interest inspired him to study abroad last summer in Santiago, Chile, which was his first time outside of the U.S. The trip helped him hone his Spanish skills and led to a greater appreciation for immigrants.
Engage: During his first semester, Jaret applied his interest in journalism by joining Fisher Ink, a student-produced magazine. One year later, he is now its VP of Writing.
Emerge: After learning the importance of leadership, Jaret pledged Delta Sigma Pi, a professional business fraternity at Fisher. He is now its Vice President of Professional Activities and aims to promote diversity and inclusion within the organization.
Dedicate: While at Fisher, Jaret helped reactivate Out in Business, a student organization that supports the development of LGBTQ students in the local business community by becoming the organization’s treasurer.
Lead: During the rest of his time at Fisher, Jaret is looking forward to maintaining his current involvements and collaborating with different student organizations to provide a closer Fisher community.
Meet Mason White, a junior specializing in accounting. Mason is from Spotswood, New Jersey and will be serving as an audit intern with PwC in its Philadelphia office this summer. Aside from his interest in accounting, he developed a strong interest in environmental sustainability after his freshman year when he studied abroad in Sydney, Australia. The most memorable part of his trip was when he went cage diving with Great White sharks. Since that experience, Mason has added a minor in Environmental Science.
Engage: Mason started his first year in the University Honors program and had the opportunity to study abroad in London during his winter break.
Emerge: To better identify his career interests, he joined the Accounting Association, Common Cents Investment Group, and Buckeye Undergraduate Consulting Club.
Dedicate: In addition to serving on two committee positions in his fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon, he is also a Scarlet and Gray Financial coach at the Student Wellness Center.
Lead: As a junior, Mason is giving back to underclassmen as a Fisher Ambassador and Accounting Honors Teaching Assistant. In his spare time, he is also a private tutor.
Meet Sonal Gupta, a senior specializing in Finance with a minor in Spanish. Sonal is from Dayton and will be moving to Chicago upon graduation to serve as a Business Technology Analyst with Deloitte Consulting. She was recognized in 2017 as a Pace Setter and has extensive internship experience, the most memorable being at a startup in Barcelona, Spain.
Engage: In her first semester as a Buckeye, Sonal pledged Alpha Kappa Psi, a professional business fraternity on campus.
Emerge: After defining her long-term goals, Sonal became an active member of Undergraduate Student Government, as well as the Buckeye Undergraduate Consulting Club, a Fisher student organization in which she now serves as president.
Dedicate: During her junior year, Sonal devoted much of her time to the Honors Cohort Program. Her biggest takeaway was her involvement in the planning of Fisher Impact Day.
Lead: As a senior, Sonal is passionate about giving back to underclassmen and found the perfect way to do so through the Peer Advisor Program. Her role is to share her perspectives and insights with first-year students and to serve as a mentor.
Meet Sophia Mullins, a first generation college student graduating May 2017. Sophia hails from Middletown, Ohio and will begin her professional journey as an Investment Banking Analyst with Barclay’s in New York City. Sophia is the first female president of Buckeye Capital Investors the foremost investment student organization at The Ohio State University and led her organization to educate members on the financial markets and how to actively invest and manage a portfolio. In 2015 Sophia completed an unpaid internship to help put food on the tables of hundreds of families through the Broad Street Food Pantry.
As a 2017 Pace Setters recipient, Sophia is receiving the The Robert E. Georges Senior Award, which is presented to a graduating senior in recognition of both academic excellence and outstanding leadership. During her senior year, Sophia is part of the inaugural Peer Impact Program, which is a team of upper-class business students who help students plan their Fisher co-curricular experience and meet with students one-on-one during consulting appointments.
