Columbus named one of the 7 smartest cities in the world

I recently saw in in the news that Columbus has been named one of the seven smartest cities in the world by the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF), an economic and social development think tank.

According to the ICF:

The Top7 represent models of economic and social transformation in the 21st Century.  They are not the most advanced technology centers, the most wired cities or the fastest growing economies in the world.  Instead, each exemplifies best practices in broadband deployment and use, workforce development, innovation, digital inclusion and advocacy that offer lessons to regions, cities, towns and villages around the world.  They are charting new paths to lasting prosperity for their citizens, businesses and institutions.

Fisher has some really smart MHRM students. Now it all makes sense 🙂

“Columbus rated tops in Ohio for business”

According to Forbes magazine, Columbus, Ohio ranks #24 nationally on The Best Places for Business and Careers list.  A recent article in the Columbus Dispatch references Forbes latest list and quotes Alex Fischer, president and CEO of the Columbus Partnership as saying: “We are repeatedly showing up as one of the top cities in the Midwest,” he said. “The Midwest is having a renaissance, and Columbus is leading that.”

2012, aka Columbus OH’s 200th birthday

Happy 200th birthday, Columbus!

I recently received an email from E. Gordon Gee, Ohio State University‘s president.

Columbus, Ohio, won my heart on my first visit here in 1990, and I am
happy to say the city has continued to embrace our great University.
This year marks the 200th anniversary of the city’s founding, and
celebrations are scheduled throughout 2012, with festivals, arts
exhibitions, performances, and so much more. I hope you will take a
moment to check out the University-related events on the calendar link and find an event that becomes a
must-see on your list.

Columbus is a vibrant setting for The Ohio State University — as both
the city and the University grow and change to meet the challenges of
the 21st century. I urge you to experience the city at its fullest,
during this bicentennial month and throughout the year. I plan to do
the same.

E. Gordon Gee

There’s always plenty to do in Columbus – and I figure that since 2012 is the 200th anniversary of its founding, I figure “stuff to do around here” will be kicked up a notch during the upcoming year. 🙂 So, if you’re going to be traveling to Columbus any time soon, are already here, or need a reason to visit, check out the city’s bicentennial page for more info!

You may have already seen this but if you haven’t (and if even if you have), this is a fun video clip shot at the new Ohio Union. It features synchronized dancing to a song from the band Journey, as sung by the cast of Glee.

If you get a chance to visit campus, I strongly making a trip to and through the Ohio Union. Who knows, maybe you’ll become a YouTube star!
