2012 Fisher Tax Clinic is a success

I recently received an email from Prof Bill Raabe. In addition to being the lead tax instructor in the Fisher MAcc program, he also founded the Fisher Tax Clinic about ten years ago. The Fisher Tax Clinic provides free tax preparation services to low-income taxpayers living and working in the Columbus metro area. Below is the note I received from him:

We had a very good year again, and this group of students were dedicated and professional in their work.  The leadership group outdid themselves in working with clients to follow-up unresolved issues and resolve them.  Our “error rate” remained among the lowest in the city.  Overall a great success for Fisher and the Columbus economy.  Thanks to the department for continued financial and moral support!

Project leaders included Fiona Pan (MAcc Council President), Jeff Howard (MAcc Council VP Community Service), Alyssa Charron (MAcc Council Webmaster), and Tax Clinic site managers Mariam Sanogo, Winnie Quick, Sarah Vosler, Jon Dahlin, Alex Curtis, and Marina Ramos.

2012 Summary of Results

Total volunteers – 73 Fisher plus 1 MBA grad from Nationwide, working 11 sessions with clients on Fridays and Saturdays

Time spent on site (including training): 1,114 hours

Value of Fisher volunteer time onsite at Godman Guild: $224,750

Value of net refunds paid to clients $452,283  (vs 2011 – $447,000)

Number of Godman Guild client tax returns completed 298  (vs 2011 – 257)

It is heartening to see so many students contribute their valuable skills, knowledge, and time to help those less fortunate in the community. Congratulations to all Fisher students who assisted with the 2012 Fisher Tax Clinic!
