Hello my lovely Fisher family! I honestly can’t believe this is my last summer as an undergrad at OSU. I’m not quite sure I’m ready to step into the “real world” next year, but hopefully interning with Ford Motor Company this summer will help me feel closer to being an adult!
When I was first offered the position as a Marketing, Sales, and Service Intern I thought the internship would be in Dearborn, Michigan. I later found out that I was actually located in Irvine, California!! I’ve been here for a week and I’m not going to lie, it’s pretty amazing. I’ll get to my infatuation with the Cali-life later, but first clue you in to a few events that occurred this past week at Ford!
My first week was actually quite eventful. My bosses were so upset that I drove to work in a Honda, they told me to leave the premises immediately…kidding! Jokes aside, it was still eventful!
My first week also occurred the same week the West region’s annual meeting takes place, so employees from the Phoenix, San Francisco, Seattle, and Denver areas all came to sunny Irvine on Wednesday! In case you were wondering, walking into an auditorium as a third-day intern with over a hundred Ford managers is quite intimidating! The meeting lasted until Friday, and I definitely came away with some great pieces of advice over the course of the week!
#1: Notebooks are sacred to interns (and employees in general)!!
#2: Ask for business cards from people you meet with—even once you’re hired, it’s important to have a network of people whose contact info is available. Use their email as a chance to write a thank-you note for meeting with you!
#3: Don’t be afraid to ask for help, but also don’t forget to work out the problem first yourself!!
Here’s a few pics of the roadtrip to Cali–the first one is from Northern Arizona!
