Someone once told me that Columbus only gets an average of 70-some sunny days a year. As much as I love this city, that is a pretty depressing statistic. So when I recently found out that Fort Collins, Colorado, where I’ll be interning this summer, has about 300 days of sunshine per year, needless to say I was pretty excited.
I’m Katie Eyre (pronounced “air”) and I’m a current student in the MLHR (Master of Labor and Human Resources) program at Fisher. I graduated last June with a degree in Psychology and decided to continue on straight through and get my MLHR degree. This summer I’ll be interning in the People Department at the Anheuser-Busch Brewery in Fort Collins, Colorado.
A little bit about me…
I was born in Columbus (both my parents went to school at Ohio State), but only lived here for 6 months before moving to Dallas, Texas. After spending 6 years there, I continued the full circle by moving to Mexico City, then West Chester, PA, then Saint Charles, IL
, and finally back to Columbus for undergrad. In all of these moves I went to 4 different elementary schools and have lived in 8 house and one dorm. Hopefully all that moving around will help me acclimate quickly to living in Colorado!
I love animals! While living at home I had 5 dogs, 3 cats, 2 horses, a bunny, 2 gerbils, a hamster, a rat, some lizards and of course some fish! Not all at the same time though, thank goodness! Riding horses was a huge part of my life growing up. I had two different horses and competed in shows all over Illinois and Wisconsin. Currently, I have two dogs of my very own. Tucker and Shayla. They keep me extremely busy and thoroughly entertained as they’re constantly getting in trouble.
Other interest include: cooking, concerts (I can’t wait to go to Red Rocks
this summer!) Buckeye sports, reading and spending time with my friends and family.
Tucker and Shayla
So I guess to wrap it all up, this past school year has been pretty amazing! I met some great people in the program who will surely be lifelong friends, interviewed for countless internships, served as a member of the Fisher Social Committee, was appointed VP of External Relations for GHRA
(Graduate Human Resources Association) and traveled to Saint Louis for the first time. Let’s just hope this summer can live up to that, but between the sunshine, the beer, the mountains, the Clydesdales
( there are some at the brewery!) and exploring beautiful Colorado, I’d say it has a pretty good shot ;) . Hope you guys will enjoy the ride just as much as I will.
