Hello everyone, congrats to all on completing your year of school and I wish you all an exciting summer. My name is Scott Rosenthal, and I just completed my second year at OSU in the Fisher College of Business. I am an Operations Management and Pre-Law major with an Entrepreneurship minor. Basically, I am working hard to become a strong businessman, while keeping the law school card in my back pocket if it is something I decide to pursue in the near future.
This summer, I have the honor of interning at the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission in lovely downtown Cleveland, Ohio. Cleveland sports!? Sounds heartbreaking! No–this is separate from the annual letdown’s of the Cavaliers, Indians and Browns. Basically, the Commission’s everyday goal is to seek out, plan and execute sporting events in the city of Cleveland that help improve the area’s economy, quality of life and image. Using national and international sporting events that attract upwards of 12,000 people greatly enhances the image of the city as they, at least for a weekend here and there, become the focal point for certain groups of athletes. For example, the Continental Cup, an international youth soccer, basketball and baseball tournament located at sporting complexes around the city’s suburbs, will attract over 10,000 people PER DAY from July 1-4 this year. This event is one the largest the Sports Commission puts on and involves the hard work of all of its employees and five interns. I will be greatly assisting in the planning and execution of this event and others, with a focus on Marketing and Corporate Partner Activations. The Marketing Coordinator and I will be working very closely this summer.
As a Cleveland native since birth (Solon to be exact), I live and die by Cleveland sports (mostly die) every single day of my life. Unlike most Clevelanders, I love the city and hope to live and raise a family here in the future. It has always been my home and will continue to be!
Stay tuned for more from on what will be a great experience this summer with Cleveland sports. Good luck to everyone in Fisher with their summer plans!
